Vivian Cheng | On leaving Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI) after 19 years of educational service, Vivian Cheng founded “Vivian Design” in 2014 to provide consultancy services and promote her own art in jewellery and glass. She graduated with a BA in industrial design from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and was awarded a special prize in the Young Designers of the Year Award hosted by the Federation of Hong Kong Industries in 1987, the Gift and Houseware Fair Design Award and the Governor’s Award for Industry: Consumer Product Design in 1989, after joining Lambda Industrial Limited as the head of the Product Design team. In 1995 she finished her Master degree and joined the Vocational Training Council teaching product design and later became responsible for, among others, establishing an international network with design-related organizations, schools and organizing Design activities, conferences and exhibitions. Vivian Cheng was the International Liaison Manager at the HKDI and member of the Hong Kong Designers Association, member of the Board of Directors of the Hong Kong Design Centre (HKDC) at 2002 and board member of the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (Icsid) (renamed as World Design Organization (WDO)) from 2013-17. Furthermore, she has been a panel member for the government and various NGOs and was the jury member for various international design competition awards like the Red dot Product Design Award, Red dot Concept Award, Braun Prize, Bio 21 & 22, ADI Compasso D’Oro International Award, China Good Design Award, Canton Fair Design Award, Gold Pin Award, Taipei International Design Award, Lotus Prize, Belgium Pavilion in Milan Expo ‘Taste of Design Competition’, La Camber Design School adjudication, and as speaker for the Wallonia Design Week. |
